I swear I saw a thread about this somewhere but can't find it. Sorry if I am repeating.
My idea for curing the slowly farming thread is make an advanced cultivator crafted out of a higher tier ore and that cultivator would place 10 seeds in a straight line, spaced optimally apart.
That would give a boost that you earn instead of changing the mechanic altogether.
